A George III mahogany Pembroke table of exceptional colour and untouched patination. Almost certainly by Gillow.

The elaborate swan neck handle is a design known to have been used by Gillow, see Gillows of Lancaster and London by Susan E Stuart vol I, page 294.

Richard Gillow is known to have based his designs on those illustrated in Chippendale’s Director; he often states in his firm’s Petty Ledger “Like Chips book”, “same as Chips”, “for such a like table as in Chippendales book”. Clearly the Director was a rich source of inspiration for his Pembroke tables.
